Travel Questions

I thought you might want to get to know me a little bit better. I decided to answer some questions for you!

What’s your favorite place so far?

Honestly, I think Lake Lebaron in Fishlake National Forest. I have only been here to camp once, and it was for only a few days, but it was by far the best trip I have ever been on. I personally think that the place we visit isn’t what makes the trip great, but the people were with. I went on that trip with some of my best friends. We all live in different cities now but the memories we made that week are brought up whenever we’re together.

The area itself it generally beautiful. There’s a nice reservoir stocked with fish, trails for easy hiking. And the stars at night are some of the best I have ever seen. I’m hoping to go back here soon.

What can’t you travel without?

My green and blue blanket that my parents bought me at target when I was 11. It’s still in perfect condition and its super thin but warm. I take this on every trip I go on. It’s become a joke in my family and with my friends, but if you’re traveling with a car and sleeping on the ground, you may as well bring your little luxuries.

What do you always bring but never use?

Deck of cards, and my full skin care routine. I always anticipate rain or at least a little fun around the campfire, and no one ever wants to play cards. I ALWAYS take care of my skin while camping, but I don’t always use every lotion and potion that I use when I’m home. If I can’t fully wash my face, I don’t like to put everything on. I feel it just holds the gunk in.

Where have you been that you would go to tomorrow?

Glaciar bay National park, and really all of Alaska. I went when I was 17 and did not appreciate it. Every time I bring this up to my mom she teases me about how we went on such a great trip and I just didn’t seem to care. I laugh because that’s just not true, but I do wish I had liked it more now.

What’s one place you were more impressed with after a revisit?

Niagara falls! I grew up in Buffalo, and so I have seen the falls countless times. During college I had only visited once or twice and never got as close as I had as when I was growing up. I went back to visit the falls three years after I finished my degree. I was blown away! After getting my degree and fully understanding the power of nature and the amazing geology of the area, I honestly felt the breath was taken out of me.

Most underrated place?

Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

What’s the hardest part about camping for you?

Tough one. Bugs, or air conditioning.

Bugs are everywhere. I am not a fan.

Scariest moment ever?

Every time a car ahead of me passes without enough safe room. I like to have a clear open road for passing, so this always freaks me out. I do my best to not close my eyes.

Funniest moment ever?

When I was in my undergrad my friends and I broke a car door. On a school owned vehicle. We kept jokingly locking one of our friends out, and when two people pull on a door handle in the opposite direction, it can just, separate. I wish we had taken photos of it. The wrath of my teacher was terrifying, but we were all crying laughing about the ridiculousness of it all. She never found out.

I did spend this whole weekend pretending we were on a reality show, so I took a lot of snapchat videos!

Trip you have planned and can’t wait for?

All of them. I’m always excited for a new trip. But, in September I’m going to Rocky Mountain National Park to see a friend get married. I’m super excited for her wedding, and cannot wait to explore the park!
